Day 5: Stock Exchange, Agriculture Innovation & Coffee

Today started off going to B3, the Brazilian Stock Exchange. We had the opportunity to listen to a presentation given by a member of B3 that dove into the different aspects and characteristics of the stock market in Brazil. It was interesting to learn the differences between here and North America and how everything interacts together. We then toured the museum that went over the history. One of the professors from UNIFESP actually worked at the stock exchange many years ago!

We grabbed a bite to eat and headed on a 2 hour bus ride to Campinas. It is a smaller but still populated city with just over 1 million habitants. Here we visited IAC an agriculture innovation centre. They produce many different kinds of products such as citrus, rice, corn, and coffee that can be delivered to the world. I liked that they talked about the one year Master and Doctorate degrees that you can earn through the actual business - nothing like we have in Canada! We drove down the road to a coffee farm that grows many different kinds of coffee beans including Arabica. Working in coffee for many years, it was eye opening to see the products origins. We tried the beans and they were surprisingly sweet!

We ended the day at a local restaurant where we learned happy birthday in Portuguese as we celebrated Alice’s birthday. Overall a great day and looking forward to continuing the week!
