Today was probably my favourite day of the trip so far! We started off my visiting B3, Brazil’s stock exchange. We listened to a presentation about the differences between the Brazilian and American exchange. It was very interesting to learn how popular derivatives are in America compared to Brazil and how the volumes are much smaller in Brazil compared to equity volumes. In Brazil, derivative volumes are very small compared to equity volume and in America this is the opposite. The exchange was beautiful and we toured the exchange museum which is inside the exchange.
We then got on a bus to Campinas to see the Agricultural Institute. They gave us a very interesting presentation on the technology they use to preserve crops and increase their crop yields. They work with many companies from around the globe. The presentation stated that for every R$1 invested in research, they generate R$12 in value. We then visited a nearby coffee farm. I had never seen a coffee plant before so this was a very unique experience for me.
