We started our day bright and early heading to the Samba School. I did not know what to expect but was truly blown away! We began with a presentation by one of the school’s four presidents on the history of the School. It was interesting to note that everyone that performs is voluntary. Additionally, something I noted was how the business is successful because of the ads and how the creation of the floats and costumes brings in so many jobs to São Paulo. We then took a tour of the three different parts of the facility. The first level was the different parts of the past years floats. The second floor was where the designs were created and the third was where the costumes were held from the previous years. A fun fact about this school is that they reuse old materials and are one of the only ones that do this! We then got to tour UNIFESP - the partner University for this trip. It was very different than Odette, a lot more open concept and smaller classrooms. I got to talk to one of the Brazilian students on the way to University and showed her my research on entrepreneurship and had an interesting conversation comparing what I found to her experiences. It was interesting to learn about Brazil from the students now that we are here. Overall, a very informative and fun day!
